NEDAwareness Week (National Eating Disorders Awareness Week) is February 22 – February 28, 2009. The purpose of this week is to bring public attention to the critical need to raise awareness and funding to battle eating disorders in the U.S. Now in its 22nd year, National Eating Disorders Awareness Week brings national attention to the severity of eating disorders, which are mental illnesses with often life-threatening physical consequences. In the U.S. as many as 10 million females and one million males struggle with the devastating effects of anorexia and bulimia. Another 25 million suffer from binge eating disorder.
Thousands of individuals and communities are expected to participate in events across the country to raise awareness about body image and eating disorder issues during this week, and South Florida is no different. Please help The Alliance for Eating Disorders Awareness, Palm Beach County’s Premier Eating Disorders Organization, bring much needed attention and awareness to eating disorders and the need for positive body image and healthy living.
The Alliance is a proud coordinator for National Eating Disorders Association. Please join us at one of our many events during that week to raise awareness and prevention of eating disorders.
